A Pokemon TCG card that collectors spent months debating was even real has reportedly sold for $20,000 as the 30th Celebration expansion officially launches.
Pokemon’s mysterious RGB Mew first appeared in July when an Australian Whatnot seller pulled an unfamiliar blue Mew from an early 30th Celebration pack. Its unusual B/RGB numbering, lack of an anniversary stamp, and previously unseen artwork immediately sparked claims that the card could be fake.
Two more blue copies were pulled during separate livestreams in August, making an elaborate hoax increasingly unlikely. Then, just days before the set’s September 16 release, collectors began pulling red and green versions alongside the original blue card, finally revealing the complete RGB trio.
Now, one of those cards may already have changed hands for the price of a new car.
Pokemon RGB Mew appears to sell for $20,000
Pokemon TCG account Peak Hobby highlighted an eBay sale for a raw blue B/RGB Mew after the listing ended at a staggering $20,000.
The eBay page lists the card as an ungraded, near-mint B/RGB Mew and shows that one copy was sold. Its displayed price is $20,000, although the listing also accepted Best Offers, meaning eBay does not publicly confirm whether the buyer paid the full asking price or negotiated a lower amount.
Other Pokemon TCG accounts and collectibles sites have since reported the transaction as a $20,000 sale, with Resell Calendar describing it as the first publicly confirmed sale of an RGB Mew.
The timing makes the price even more notable. Pokemon TCG: 30th Celebration officially releases worldwide on September 16, meaning collectors have only just gained widespread access to packs containing the cards. Pokemon confirmed the expansion’s September 16 launch date ahead of release.
It is still unclear exactly how difficult the RGB Mews will be to pull. An earlier rumor claimed the cards could appear in roughly one out of every 20,000 packs, but that figure has never been publicly verified by The Pokemon Company and early pulls have already raised questions over its accuracy.
