UFC 6 UFC 331 Fight Week Update Adds Three Fighters, Gameplay Tuning and More

The UFC 331 Fight Week update arrived today for UFC 6, bringing a few new fighters to the roster along with gameplay tuning, ground game improvements and several smaller fixes. Quillan Salkilld and Lone’er Kavanagh are the latest fighters joining the main roster, while a UFC 48 version of former heavyweight champion Frank Mir is being added through the UFC 6 Fighter Pass.

Salkilld enters the lightweight division with his aggressive striking style built around early pressure, while Kavanagh brings his kickboxing background to flyweight with quick hands, stance switching and plenty of feints. Frank Mir’s UFC 48 version leans heavily into what made him so dangerous during that period, with strong submission ratings, a 100 Bottom Game rating and plenty of options for sweeps, transitions and getting back to his feet.

There are some gameplay changes in the update as well, particularly once a fight hits the ground. EA has reduced the delay that could happen after double-leg and single-leg takedowns, including takedown turns, allowing fighters to begin their next ground action much sooner. More takedown types and other ground situations are expected to get similar responsiveness improvements in future updates.

Another change is aimed at balancing fighters with noticeably different reaches. Shorter-reach fighters can now receive a larger stand-up damage bonus with the difference in damage multipliers reaching as much as 10 percent between the shortest and longest possible fighters in a division. The previous system already provided a smaller advantage to shorter fighters, but EA felt it wasn’t doing enough to offset the benefits that come with having a longer reach.

Strike variants have been adjusted for several fighters too, with hooks, calf kicks and roundhouse kicks among the areas touched. Some fighters who previously used the Fast Variant for roundhouse kicks have moved to the Heavy Variant, which puts more emphasis on power rather than speed without changing the speed of the Fast Variant itself.

There are quite a few smaller fixes packed into the update, including corrected range for the Over Under clinch entry following a feint, a larger denial window for flying submissions and improvements to AI behavior when activating Flow State. AI opponents should make better target choices after causing health events, while camera behavior has been cleaned up around certain takedowns, diving punches and ground-and-pound situations.

The update includes several other fixes covering Southpaw controls in online fights, combo previews, cage strikes, clinch entries and various animation issues, so players looking for everything that changed can check out the full details on the official blog.
