Megaquarium developer Twice Circled just revealed Plantlife, a really sweet looking botanical farming management building sim. Taking what they learned building Megaquarium and going in a rather different direction.
It's confirmed to be launching next year, with full Native Linux support. Explaining more about it the developer said: "At its heart, Plantlife is a game about growing things, that's why every plant has unique requirements. Potatoes need earthing up, brassicas need mesh for protection, and warmth loving plants require a greenhouse to thrive. Master their needs and you'll be rewarded with abundant harvests of quality produce".
No trailer yet but there's a few screenshots to show it off:
Screenshot gallery4 screenshots +1 more Key Features Adding valueSelling raw produce is a great way to start, but you can make more money turning them into artisanal jams, pickles and oils. Processing takes workers away from growing, so you'll need to find a balance that works for your farm.
Play with the seasonsPlantlife's crops follow the seasons realistically, so planning your sowing schedule is essential. By choosing your seeds carefully you can ensure an even workload throughout the year. Alternatively, you can maximise the summer harvest and spend the winter processing the glut into high value goods.
Trees and perennialsAnnual crops provide a return within the year, but must be grown anew every season. Will you invest in perennial vegetables and fruit trees for a long-term revenue stream?
Career pathYou'll start your first plot with just a handful of plant options and basic equipment. Demonstrate your expertise through Career Challenges, to permanently unlock new seeds and more advanced equipment. These will be available for each new farm you start.
Regional varietyThe crops you can grow vary with each region, as do the requests from the local populace. You might be asked to deliver a large consignment of purple carrots or several crates full of wine. If you're willing to design your farm around them, you'll be rewarded with bursts of cash and career XP that will propel your farm to the next level.
An optimiser's dreamAnalyse the breakdown of your worker's time card to identify the waste. Tweak your layout to minimise walking distance and maximise productivity.
Smarter than your averageSpend more time planning and less time micro-managing, as your workers make smart choices about what to do next. Use the default parameters, or tune them so that your workers' priorities are aligned with your own.
Choose your paceFree from time limits, you can explore the game's systems at your leisure. On the other hand, efficient play will lead to fast progression and more complex gameplay. Plantlife neither rushes you, nor holds you back.
Choose your scaleRun a speciality microfarm and watch every step of your product's journey from seed to sale. Or employ fifty workers across a large-scale horticultural empire, utilising the data to inform your next business decision.
